Falmouth Marine Pump Out Station

Last weekend one of our members, David Gooch, MV "Blue Sky", attempted to use the Falmouth Town Landing Marine Pump Out Station and discovered the pump was not working properly. David contacted the Harbor Master and the Police Chief to inform them there was a problem. After many hours the Harbor Master discovered the pump had an object lodged that was causing the pump to malfunction. With help from Pete Clark and Dwayne Brown who work for the Wastewater Department they were able to clear the blockage and the system is now back-up and running. Police Chief Tolan also told David that the town is working with the Wastewater Department to create a long term solution when these types of problems occur.

We appreciate the committed efforts by the Falmouth team to keep the pump out station operational. Having a marine pump out station so close to the PYC achorage is beneficial to members who are trying to comply with the “no discharge” zone.

Schooner Trophy Race Returns

The Schooner trophy race is a new addition to the Pilot Regatta for 2010. This race is for crews wanting to spend just one afternoon racing in a casual atmosphere much like a Thursday night race. The Schooner Trophy Race is a race for PYC members only, will take place on Saturday afternoon of the Pilot Regatta and is a set course that dates back to the 1960s.

This race was run every year for 20 plus years up to the late '90s when it was left out of the PYC race schedule for a few years and almost forgotten about. PYC has kept the entry fee extremely low at $49.00 per boat for this event which includes the racing, dinner, entertainment and drinks for your whole crew at the party on Saturday evening after racing.

To register and find out more information as it becomes available, stay tuned to the Pilot Regatta website.

Thursday Night Starting Sequence Changes

The Race Committee has decided that Class C will start first, followed by Class B (boats 26 feet and under, with spinnakers), and Class A last (boats over 26 feet, with spinnakers). Among the reasons: to complete the evening’s races in a more compact time, and to give the boats that most need wind on downwind legs more opportunity to get that wind before it dies.
