Late Breaking News About PYC Cruisers and Suspicious Very-Fast-Sailing-Sloop 7-26 Update

Update at 5:48 PM EST from Club Member, David Gooch

"I am hearing scattered reports regarding the suspicious Very-Fast-Sailing-Sloop has been spotted in Burnt Coat Harbor Swan’s Island. Locals are reporting that the Captain who claims to be Dave the Innocent (see man with red hat on the left) has been making demands for low cost local seafood and forcing terrified resident to work at slave wages. Also included in the report is the Captain has forced the elderly women of the island pick fresh crab meat until their fingers bleed. If the locals do not agree the Captain is saying he will behave in a manner similar to the Northeast and Matinicus Island incidents. "

Another Startling Report About The Very-Fast-Sailing-Sloop Involving PYC Cruisers

Update at 8:10 AM EST from Club Member, David Gooch

"I have just received a current dispatch from Downeast Maine, it seems the marauding fleet has hold up in a dead end cove on the northeast side of Somes sound tied up to floating wharfs. The town people are reporting heavy drinking and story telling about some great race where the suspicious Very-Fast-Blue-Sloop snagged a line. If this had not happened it's said they would have won. My source also reported there were injured crew being force into deckhand work trying to overtake the other race boats. My source also reported there are groups commandeering some sort of motorized vehicles and forcing the drivers to drive inland and then offering the drivers worthless paper money (maybe green mold) and shinny coins for valuable objects of art, good and services. when this group returns to the Club house they must be forced to explain themselves in a tribunal!"

Are our PYC Club Cruisers Involved: Response From A Person Posing As The Captain of The Very-Fast-Sailing-Sloop

Updated 7-22-09 at 8:30 PM EST
Club member David Gooch just emailed additional details about the fast breaking story regarding the Very-Fast-Sailing-Sloop J42. Mr. Gooch reported he received a suspicious email from a person posing as club member, Mr. David Robinson, aboard the Very-Fast-Sailing-Sloop.
"I have just gotten in cell range after several arduous days at sea - a 43 mile sail to Matinicus in perfect wind and weather, an attempted murder at Matinicus; a 2.5 pound, hard shelled lobster and a quiet nighjt at Seal Bay.
I am innocent! I realize that the coincidence of these events with my travels is indeed alarming, but it is mere coincidence! The finger incident was not retribution for those wonderful fireworks in NE harbor - I had several compliments - the fire was during my sleeping hours and the blood on my dinghy at Matinicus is my own...and the pistol found near my feet was not licensed...to me or anyone. Dan Lilly has taken my case and assures me of a quick dismissal of all charges".

We will continue to update the Blog Site as this story unfolds along the Maine Coast.

Are our PYC Club Cruisers Involved Response From Club Manager

On 7-21-09 Club Manager, Bill Richards, provided an update regarding the dark blue very-fast-sailing-sloop J42:
All cruise vessels were thoroughly searched for firearms, firecrackers, and firewater prior to departure from the Club. Hence, I am highly doubtful that Mr. Robinson was involved in the Matinicus incident. (I can’t speak about the other allegations.) Besides, the man, a Mr. Barn, was shot in the neck; reliable sources say Mr. Robinson is not a good enough shot to hit a neck. The broad sign of a Barn, perhaps, but not a neck.

Are our PYC Club Cruisers Involved?

Member David Gooch emailed today about a story he heard from a reliable sailer that a very fast dark blue hull J42 may be involved in mayhem and destruction along the coast of Maine. .
Mr. Gooch report that the J42 may also be involved in suspicious financial deals that include trading Mount Gay rum for very large lobsters along the Maine coast. There was a report of an injury during the lobster-for-Mount Gay transaction that required the Captain of the J42 to be hospitalized in Ellsworth. If other members have additional information please update our blog site.

Mid Season Dining Room Survey

I think it's a great idea and good effort to ask for membership feedback regarding membership Dining Room experiences so far. I'm looking forward to providing The Food & Beverage Committee with candid feedback.

From PYC club member Tim Hussey:
Resolute was in IRC 2, finished 6th of 16. Crew aboard included Fred Madeira and his 2 sons John and Nathan, me (Tim) and my son Philip, Geoff Emmanuel, Dave Ruff, Milt Calder, Max Fletcher, Nate Hicks. GREAT time, not enough wind. But not a drop of rain and no fog!
Other local boats in the race included Abracadabra in PHRF-2 (double-handed), Amhas and Bandito also in PHRF-2, and Beausoleil in PHRF-3.

July 9th Thursday Night Races

Finally we had a warm sunny night for Thursday Night Races around the Cans. The wind was wonderful, about 8 to 10 knots and kept blowing until around 8:00 when it finally died down. It was a perfect night for a sail, lots of boats participated, and the enchanted evening ended with great food and cocktails with friends. Life doesn't get much better than this.

June 26th Pizza Party and Family Cruise Weekend

We had a great turnout for the Commodore's Cocktail Party Pizza and Movie Party. About 17 kids showed up for pizza and to watch the movie, Bolt. We quickly ran out of the pizza within the first 15 minutes and had to make a run for more. I didn't calculate some of the kids could eat 5 slices at one sitting!
Saturday morning we had 5 kids and one adult (me) for the 4-Sqaure Competition which quickly turned into 6-Square Competition. Around noon time, Enchantress, County Girl, Stolen Hours and Selah left the anchorage and headed out to Cliff Island. Of course, the fog returned while en-route and the wind wasn't favorable for anchoring so we headed to Stolen Hour's "secret spot" between Stave and Ministerial Island. Stave had a nice beach for the kids and good protection from the SE wind. At 1:30AM a thunderstorm/squall came thru and the wind shifted to the NE and increased to 20+ mph. With no protection from the wind and chop things got pretty bumpy and the captain on Enchantress was awake worrying about the anchor breaking loose.

Another Family Cruise Weekend is planned for August 1st and 2nd at Sebasco Harbor Resorts. They fill up fast so make your reservations early. Details will be coming soon.
